Living in LA this summer I was able to enjoy all the great fresh produce here!
One of my new favorites has been the California Fig, which is in season from June until September.
You can get 30 fresh organic figs for about $4. And use them to sweeten your food and drinks! Use fresh figs as jam on your morning toast, in your blender to sweeten smoothies, and anything that you want to sweeten up… naturally.
Fresh figs are cheap … and healthy … and have various uses.
Vitamin B6 is needed for healthy brain function, to synthesize antibodies, and to help your body breakdown protein.
So if you eat a lot of protein, especially if you are a body builder, you will need more B6 in your diet. A deficiency of vitamin B6 includes irritability, morning sickness in pregnant women, depression, anemia, and arthritis.
Figs also help to fight macular degeneration, high blood pressure, and are a very common ingredient in weight loss.
Low calorie, high fiber = weight loss.
Figs are GREAT to use as a natural sweetener. I often recommend raw liquid Stevia to my clients but figs are an even better choice!
Instead of honey, agave sugar, or stevia, I like to add fresh organic figs to sweeten up my green juice smoothies
Here is my green smoothie of the day: kale, cucumber, strawberries, pineapple, figs – all organic, all fresh, all California local. YUM!
A purrrrrfect end of summer treat! Filling, healthy, sweet, good carbs, and best of all… so cheap to make .
look fresh. eat pure. feel alive. save money!
