We are deep in the football and basketball season where the usual gaming snacks are buffalo wings with blue cheese, quesadillas, Doritos (which is what I’ve been craving all week!) and chips and guac.
Here’s a healthier alternative to your usual chips and guacamole snack and a good option instead of munching on Doritos, as good as they are .
Try organic blue corn tortilla chips. They are made with organic whole corn kernels and natural expeller-pressed oils. No GMOs, no preservatives, no artificial flavors, and no sugar. They also have much less sodium and are gluten-free!
I like Garden of Eatin’ brand blue corn chips.
In terms of the guacamole, I like to make my own!
Here’s my healthy guac recipe for one person (just multiply by how many people you are making it for):
use half an avocado
some diced tomatoes
diced raw red onions
some lemon juice
jalapenos (depends on how spicy you like it)
fresh cilantro and/or parsley (chopped up)
season to taste with Himalayan pink sea salt
Mix all the ingredients together and Voila!
You’ve got homemade HEALTHY guacamole to eat with your healthier chips!
The raw red onions, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and cilantro are great to fight off colds (which it seems that everyone in NYC is getting sick or just getting over being sick). The avocado provides some good source of fat and the tomatoes are a great source of antioxidants.
So next time you are heading over to someone’s house to watch the game, bring over some homemade guac and chips!
