Summer is almost officially here and I am already craving food items to cool my body down, particularly watermelon. You will notice in yourself certain cravings that you may have only in the summer and not in the winter. We tend to eat more salads, fruits, ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet and drink more cold beverages when the weather is warm.
Here is a peak into my fridge today. As always, lots of color variety in your produce is the golden rule in nutrition. I have been craving fresh watermelon juice and like to keep it cold in my blender. It is so refreshing and helps to not only keep my body cool but also helps to keep my sweet cravings at bay. My Dunkin Donut craving is usually satisfied with a healthier alternative .
Red beets, alfalfa sprouts, corn on the cob, celery, and carrots with the stalk still on them are my favorites. These are all root vegetables that help keep me grounded and calm during the work week. They are all filling and satisfying as snacks. Try the carrots that are pictured in my fridge. They taste a whole lot better than pre packaged baby carrots.
Red grapefruit, crunchy apples, avocados, zucchini, and BluePrint cleanse smoothies are also in my fridge this month. I’m not doing a cleanse but rather for convenience, bought some pre made vegetable smoothies. Will discuss more in my next posts on some of these items.
I love grocery shopping but sometimes when I get busy, I use a delivery service. Here in NYC we have Fresh Direct, D’agistino’s, and Urban Fetch to choose from. Better to use these services to stock up on healthy eats than to hastily pick something up at your local deli, which usually is not as healthy. Hope my fridge inspires you to pick up something new and yummy this month!
